The Kőröshegy viaduct is practically lifted out of its place, the replacement of the hay starts

The Kőröshegy Valley Bridge is expected to be completely closed for two weeks from the second of September due to works, MKIF Zrt. told MTI on Monday.    

The work is planned in advance, the bridge is safe

According to MKIF, the annual bridge inspections and the semi-annual bridge inspections, as well as the spring test lifts, revealed that three of the 38 spans of the Kőröshegy Valley Bridge were heavily worn. Replacement of these will begin in September.

It was stressed that the replacement of the bridge cables, which requires great precision, can only be carried out on a bridge closed to traffic, as the bridge structure has to be lifted a few centimetres away from the piers. In other words, the bridge is practically lifted out of its place.

The statement also said that the replacement of the spans is a pre-planned work and the bridge is safe and in good condition. In addition to the replacement of the spans, the anti-corrosion coatings of the expansion joints will be renewed in the entire cross-section (4 locations) in addition to the deck.

They wrote that, in view of the summer holidays, the work was scheduled for after the start of school to minimise disruption to traffic.   

During the track closure, passengers arriving from Budapest have to leave the track at the Zamárdi upper/Siófok west junction and return at Balatonszárszó. Drivers coming from the border should leave the track at Balatonszárszó junction and return at Zamárdi felső/Siófok west.
