Engineering-energy upgrade begins on MOME
The former Hungarian University of Applied Arts took the name of one of the world's most famous Hungarian artists, László Moholy-Nagy, in 2005. The institution's mission focuses on world-class education, research and development of art, design and creativity. Its mission is to support a wide range of creative activities.
According to the MOME community page, several emblematic spaces on the MOME Campus will be renovated or expanded over the summer, including the much-used library.
In August, mechanical and energy reconstruction will begin on three buildings, Ground, ONE and TWO, on Zugligeti Road in District XII. The renovation work will be carried out by EB Hungary Invest Kft. on an area of approximately 5,759 square metres.
The aim of the development is to make the MOME buildings more sustainable, energy efficient and economical in the long term, to ensure the future-proof operation of the educational and cultural institution.
Focus on efficient and energy-saving operation
The project involves a complete modernisation of the heating, cooling, ventilation and water supply systems. The integration of renewable energy sources, such as heat pumps and solar panels, and the installation of an intelligent building management system (BMS) will be a priority.
In building Ground, for example, a new textile tracking workshop with a renewed lighting and ventilation system will be created in the former High Press workshop area. A humidification system will also be installed in the latter's intake network to ensure the proper functioning of the dispenser.
Specialised engineering, tailored to your needs
In the ONE building, where the rooms accommodate dusty technology processes, the upgrade aims to link pressure sensors in the extraction networks to the building monitoring system, which will indicate critical pressure drops and the need for cleaning.
Here you also need, among other things:
-replacement of undersized sections in the entire cooling system,
-reorganisation of existing FC equipment,
-installing monitoring facilities for the heating and cooling hydraulic system, to be displayed on the building surveillance system;
-conversion and continuous regulation of the refrigerator control,
-replacement of the necessary pumps.
-Refurbishment of the existing building automation system for efficient operation,
-replacement of thermostats;
-replacement of the compressor equipment of the compressed air system and installation of an adapted unit.
In TWO, in addition to the architectural interventions related to the mechanical modifications on the basement level, there will also be architectural interventions required by the new functions. Some process rooms will have glazed doors for safe operation. The new rooms will be equipped with a new slab in the test room of the building, and the façade will also be affected.
The ventilation system is modernised, the ventilation system of rooms that are to be equipped with new or new functions is modified, and humidifiers are sometimes installed. Fan-coil systems are reorganised, pumps are replaced, and water systems are modified.
The contractor will have to ensure the smooth running of the university during the reconstruction, so the timing and logistical coordination of the works is key. The expected completion date for the renovation is April 2026.
