This year, not only did the MERKBAU team provide financial support, they also took a wheelbarrow

Nurseries and kindergartens in Bács-Kiskun County could apply for the MERKBAU Zrt. MerkÚjítók tender. In 100%, MERKBAU Zrt., a Hungarian-owned general contractor, building materials trader and machine tool supplier, provided HUF 5,000,000 in funding to the nursery school on Kossuth Street in Bácsalmás and carried out a complete renovation.

Applications were open for renovation

The MerkÚjítók project is intended for institutions in the county where renovation is overdue, but they do not know how and with what resources they can do it. The winning institution was selected from 13 applications.

The main judging criteria were: number of people, current condition, motivating factors for renovation, quality of the submitted application and the number of votes on Facebook.

The grant included the complete construction activities and the provision of the necessary materials.

Along good causes

"A local community is important to us and every year we support an important cause, so this year we wanted to create something special," said Anita Knáb, HR Manager.

In previous years, they have donated money to various organisations, but this year they wanted to give to something they are really good at, which is building. That's how MerkÚjítók was born a year ago, with the company's goal of renovating a preschool in their neighborhood that was in real need - giving back to the community where the now nationally known company started.

Kindergartens and nurseries are not only educational centres, but also community spaces where little ones take their first steps into the world, which is why it was considered essential to improve the conditions in such an institution.

They completed the task in a month

The renovation started with a volunteer day on 29 June 2024, and was handed over to the management and the youngest children on 23 August 2024. In the case of the selected kindergarten in Bácsalmás, the contractors undertook the renovation of the flooring because the institution needed it.

"We took up the previous floor, broke up the concrete," said Anita Knáb, "and created a new layer system, on which the new laminate flooring was placed. We were also able to paint all three classrooms and the corridor."

Even though they didn't have much time to work, and the hot summer weather didn't favour them either, the MERKBAU team managed to overcome the obstacles.

"The flooring was indeed in very poor quality, so replacing it will be useful for the nursery in the long run; and we found a local contractor to do the painting, which is a pleasure"

At the handover ceremony, Renáta Földesné Remete, deputy head of the institution, thanked the company for its hard work, which was also documented by the Bács-Kiskun county company with a video series.

"We wanted to take viewers behind the scenes of a construction process, so we made videos of the renovation," the HR manager told us.
