The energy home renovation programme is being extended
From January this year, 300,000 more families will be able to participate in the energy home renovation programme, because now it is also possible to apply for the renovation of properties built before 2007, said the Minister of State for Energy and Climate Policy of the Ministry of Energy on Wednesday on M1 news channel.
Attila Steiner said: the energy home renovation programme provides opportunities for replacing windows and doors, insulating buildings and modernising heating. However, it is important that the investments should result in energy savings of 30 percent. The State Secretary called the scheme favourable, as it allows for a HUF 1 million co-payment and a HUF 3 million non-refundable grant and an interest-free loan of HUF 3 million.
He reminded that in the previous programme only properties built before 1990 were eligible for this support, but this has been changed, so that properties built before 2007 can now apply.
Gas boilers no longer open for bids
Among the changes, he also mentioned that while last year it was possible to apply for gas boilers, this year it is no longer possible due to EU regulations. Attila Steiner said on Kossuth Radio's Good Morning, Hungary programme that the energy home renovation programme was launched last summer, with a budget of more than HUF 100 billion. So far, 27 billion forints worth of applications have been received for the programme, and now they want to use the remaining funds to expand it.
Simpler administration
He explained that the soft loan and non-refundable subsidy available under the scheme can be applied for at three banks: the OTP, MBH and Gránit Bank. Administration has also been simplified: applicants no longer need to submit income proof or a payment schedule. Attila Steiner also referred to another government programme launched in January, the rural home renovation programme, which is basically for families and does not have an energy focus. He said that if you combine the two programmes, you can achieve a complete energy and aesthetic renovation of an average-sized family house.
