Listed Financial Times - Lindab in the European sustainability lead

Lindab is proud of this achievement and remains committed to climate-conscious operations and minimising greenhouse gas emissions. One of the world's most renowned business publications, Financial Times, monitors companies annually based on their carbon dioxide emissions in collaboration with data provider Statista. This year's ranking includes 600 companies from 23 countries.

In addition to reducing carbon emissions, transparency was also examined

Among other things, the assessment examined the extent to which the company reduced its greenhouse gas emissions over a five-year period (2018-2023) resulting from its operations and the energy it uses (Scope 1 and Scope 2). Due to the mandatory reporting of Scope 1 and Scope 2 data, these data are comparable and transparent. The assessment also took into account the extent to which the company made its carbon emissions from its supply chain (Scope 3) transparent. The ranking also took into account the extent to which total carbon emissions were reduced and how the company under review was linked to, for example, the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) or Science Based Targets, i.e. initiatives representing sustainability assessment and transparency. It is interesting to note that the „construction and building materials” sector, to which Lindab also belongs, accounts for the second largest share of the Financial Times list, accounting for 8 per cent of the total list. Only the „financial services” sector was larger, with 10%. This also shows that Lindab achieved this great result in a highly competitive environment. The company has worked hard to ensure that Lindab is not only part of the sustainable transformation of the industry, but also one of its leaders. This work has borne fruit with the Financial Times award.

Sustainability report and objectives

Lindab has recently published its latest Sustainability Report. The company’s efforts in this area focus on three main areas:

• Healthy indoor environments - creating comfortable and liveable buildings.
• Buildings with a lower installed and operational carbon footprint - alternative materials (e.g. recycled steel) and energy efficient ventilation solutions.
• Decarbonisation of own operations

Pioneering developments from Europe to Biatorbágy

The Lindab plays a pioneering role in sustainability not only in Europe but also in Hungary. In response to the need to reduce embedded carbon, alternative raw materials are also available in the Lindab range. Domestically manufactured in Biatorbágy, air ducts made from recycled steel are now available, which can reduce carbon emissions by up to 62%.

In addition, the company is the first air duct manufacturer in Hungary to issue an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) for the Lindab Safe circular duct elements. The EPD is a credible certificate that shows the environmental impact of a product throughout its life cycle, helping the construction industry.

The Lindab's ventilation solutions contribute to the energy-efficient operation of buildings, thereby reducing operational carbon. One of the key development directions for the Lindab is demand controlled ventilation solutions. With such a system, the amount of air delivered to each room is always exactly what is actually needed based on the number of occupants - so there is no energy loss. In an office building in Germany, the Lindab demand controlled ventilation solution has achieved energy savings of nearly 70% while improving indoor comfort.

A climate-conscious approach from raw material selection to the final product

The ranking of the Financial Times confirms that the Lindab is one of Europe's leaders in sustainable operation. It is one of its ambitions:

• Use of greener materials, especially recycled steel.
• Use of renewable energy sources in manufacturing plants.
• Development of energy efficient ventilation systems.
• Lindab solutions support the acquisition of building certificates (e.g. BREEAM, LEED, WELL).
