Püspökladány - Biharkeresztes: another 55 kilometres of electrified railway lines

On 19 September 2023, a press conference was held in Berettyóújfalu on the occasion of the handover of the Püspökladány-Biharkeresztes 101 railway line, which will be replaced by a bottleneck and electrified. Following successful testing, regular electric traction on the line started on 28 August (the railway company will introduce the regular timetable from December).

The project implemented as part of the Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium investment will be carried out by Strabag Rail Kft. (consortium leader) and R-Kord Kft., with a net value of HUF 47 billion. The NoBo and DeBo conformity assessments required to carry out the certification processes related to infrastructure, energy and track control-command and signalling subsystems were performed by RailCert Hungary Kft..

As we reported at the time, the foundation stone was laid in October 2020.

Almost 55 kilometres of the Püspökladány-Biharkeresztes railway line have been electrified.In addition to electrification, the project included the reconstruction of 34 kilometres of track network, the construction of an electric substation and an overhead line maintenance depot in Berettyóújfalun. Accessible elevated platforms, switch heating, overhead line power remote control (FET) and local automatic train control (HETA) equipment were built, and a new, modern electronic signalling and passenger information system was installed and integrated into the central traffic control centre (KÖFI) in Pyspökladány.

In addition, the reception building of Báránd station, the premises of Sáp and Biharkeresztes stations were completely renewed, and the telecommunications, power and fuse equipment (TEB) buildings were constructed at Berettyóújfalu and Mezőpeterd stations.
