Project Penta will make cycling between the two towns safer with a dedicated cycle path approximately one kilometre long.

Another infrastructure development project is set to begin this week in Fót; the contract for the resurfacing of Keleti Márton Street and the construction of a new cycle path has been signed. The project, which has been awaited for decades and is worth approximately 97 million forints – for which Fót secured a non-repayable government grant of 69 million forints under the Versenyképes Járások Program scheme – was awarded to the public procurement tender, Penta Általános Építőipari Kft.. The works, involving the refurbishment of Keleti Márton Street from the MOL charging station to the railway station, will begin at Balavásár Street and are scheduled for completion by 22 March in the first quarter of 2027; thereby creating a direct cycle route between Fót and Dunakeszi.

A dedicated cycle lane is being introduced to make cycling safer

As part of the project, a two-way cycle path equipped with street lighting will be constructed along a stretch of almost one kilometre, from the MOL filling station to the railway station, on Keleti Márton and Győrffy István streets.

The development creates a key new regional link, as it connects directly to Dunakeszi’s existing cycle network, thereby providing a direct connection between neighbouring towns for both daily commuters and workers at the Nyugati Industrial Estate. The construction of a dedicated cycle lane is important from a road safety perspective, as there is significant car and lorry traffic on the street, which serves as the approach to Road 2101; the project will therefore physically separate vulnerable cyclists from heavy goods vehicles.

The drainage system is also being renovated

Keleti Márton Street is undergoing a comprehensive regeneration: as part of the works, the road surface will be upgraded, the damaged drainage system will be refurbished and brought up to standard, and a new drainage system will be installed to provide a permanent solution to rainwater drainage problems.

To ensure the safety of pedestrians, new pedestrian crossings equipped with dedicated street lighting and accessible tactile paving will be installed in both directions at the junction of Keleti Márton and József Attila streets.
