It will be partly funded by the European Union: the public procurement will be published in January 2025, and work can start next year.

Hungary's government has decided to rebuild not only the 471 road with four-lane tracking, but also the railway line between Nyíregyháza and Debrecen, Minister of Construction and Transport János Lázár said in a video message posted on his Facebook page on Friday.

He stressed that this will include the complete reconstruction of 50 kilometres of railway track and the strengthening of rail links between the two cities. This means that the junction of the road 471 and the railway line to Nyíregyháza in Debrecen will have to be realised by building an overpass.

He recalled that there is a section of the 471 in Debrecen (the Sámsoni road to Mátészalka - ed.) that is being four-laned: the project will be completed soon, and the rail crossing is one of the bottlenecks in the city.

This will be rebuilt as part of the development of the railway line between Nyíregyháza and Debrecen. This will be partly funded by the European Union, the public procurement will be published in January 2025, and work can start next year, as they have all the necessary design plans and permits, and even the resources, János Lázár said.
