Bound track
Another push is underway on the new railway bridge being built in the capital
The installation of the second railway bridge has also begun as part of the Gubacsi út project to expand the southern circular railway line. The previously double-track railway bridge will be expanded to four tracks and completely rebuilt. In the most significant railway development in Budapest in the last 100 years, the Gubacsi út railway crossing will be the fourth new bridge to be built.
Three new bridges will form the crossing
As a preliminary step to the sub-project, the delivery of the steel structural elements for the new railway bridge to the site began in August last year. The new crossing will replace the previous double-track bridge and will consist of three bridges, providing a total of four tracks. The installation of the G1 steel bridge has now begun and will be completed within a day.
On the afternoon of 28 January, Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium reported on site on the bridge development and the entire southern circular railway investment, which is being carried out by V-Híd Zrt. as general contractor.
A total of seven railway bridges are being renovated in Budapest
As previously indicated, during the expansion of the Déli circular railway connecting Ferencváros and Kelenföld stations to three tracks, 6 kilometres of new track will be built and 7.7 kilometres will be rebuilt. The existing two-track structures will be widened to three tracks, and in some places to four tracks. Two railway bridges will be built and renovated in Pest, and five in Buda. In addition, two new railway stations will be built: Közvágóhíd in Pest and Nádorkert in Buda.
The Southern Circular Railway is one of the most important sections of the domestic transport infrastructure, but it has limited capacity, which justified the investment. As a result, among other things, there will be more frequent services to the Budapest catchment area; in addition, the investment will increase the axle load, thereby meeting the requirements of the European core network.
