Thanks to the recently completed upgrades, the logistics and maintenance processes at the Győr terminal can continue with greater capacity and more efficient technical support.

Previously, reported that railway logistics capacity would be expanded at the Győr terminal. We have now received news that the work has been completed.

The DB Cargo Hungária Kft. officially handed over its new maintenance pit and the terminal's second track; and a diesel locomotive was named after former managing director Nándor Németh at the event. The development, costing more than €1 million, will increase capacity and maintenance efficiency.

On 21 January 2026, DB Cargo Hungária Kft. handed over the new maintenance area to its most important local partners. The event was attended by the management of AUDI Hungaria Zrt, the vice-president of the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Chamber of Commerce and Industry, representatives of Hungrail and MLSZKSZ, and the leaders of several key partners, according to the company's announcement.

The event was opened by Dr. Jan Busch and Tímea Falviné Lukács, managing directors of the company. In their opening speech, they recalled the history of the Terminal, which dates back to 1999 when DB Cargo Germany purchased the site.

The site has undergone continuous development over the past 25 years. The first milestone was the hall built in 2016, which is now used to store automotive press tools. This was followed by a second hall, which was handed over in 2022 and currently serves battery logistics functions.

Underground investment, surface capacity increase

Work on the new maintenance pit and second track project began in 2023, and with the approval of DB Cargo's management, construction officially began on 27 July 2025. The aim of the investment was to expand the capacity of parallel business lines and increase the efficiency of maintenance activities.

The value of the development exceeds one million euros, and a significant part of it was carried out underground.

Built as part of the project:

  • 121 metres of new track,
  • 1,000 square metres of maintenance area and
  • A 25-metre-long pit for maintaining locomotives with a load capacity exceeding 120 tonnes, accessible by forklift and heavy crane.

The Mérnök-Mátrix Zrt., BetonSped Kft. and SZI-GEO Kft. were involved in the construction work.

A milestone in expansion, a compass for the future

Dr. Jan Busch, the company's managing director, emphasised that

The Terminal plays a prominent role in the DB Cargo Hungária portfolio, as well as in Audi's sidings and the region's business processes, making today's expansion a particularly important milestone.

He also emphasised that the company is preparing for the future:

„We have plans to expand our capacity in the field of battery logistics, further develop our maintenance services, and build modern office and workshop facilities. The possibilities are endless.”

The opening ceremony was continued by Tímea Falviné Lukács, financial director of DB Cargo Hungária Kft., who commemorated the company's former founding director, Nándor Németh, who led the company for 16 years. In his memory, the company's diesel locomotive No. 101 was christened „Nándor” with the cooperation of his family.

The managing director stated: „This opening event should commemorate our past in a fitting manner, while pointing the way towards our shared future.”

The Hungarian subsidiary of the German freight transport company Deutsche Bahn began operations in early 2002 under the name Logistic Center Hungária Kft., providing railway services for AUDI Hungaria in Győr. Over the years, the company has grown rapidly and expanded its railway portfolio. Today, it provides nationwide train transport, railway traction and railway operations for several automotive and agricultural companies. At the Győr terminal, it offers container handling, storage services, combined transport solutions and battery logistics solutions, as well as maintenance of its own locomotives.
