The Danube municipality is also improving its community spaces and infrastructure

As part of a ceremony, Gábor Varga, Member of Parliament, and Attila Nagy, Mayor of Kisapostag, laid the foundation stone for the project – funded under the „Liveable Settlements” scheme – in the town in Fejér County. Also present at the event was Gábor Förhécz, project manager of STRABAG, the company carrying out the construction work.

In his welcome speech, the head of the municipality said that they are preparing to implement a complex project: in addition to paving and surface drainage, they are also creating a public park for the local community, with the aim of providing them with a more liveable environment. The new park, where groups of friends and families will be able to relax, will also house a clock. In his speech, Gábor Varga, Member of Parliament of the region, highlighted the construction of the pavement, which was a long-standing request of the mayor and will guarantee the safety of people living and travelling along the main road 6.

Stormwater run-off is channeled

The best bid for the improvements in Kisapostag was submitted by STRABAG Építő Kft.. The project will involve EU and national funding of around €294 million in non-reimbursable subsidies.

As part of the project, the contractor will install a rainwater drainage system on Petőfi and Széchenyi István Streets. There are significant differences in elevation within the village; during heavy rainfall, water rushing down from the higher streets usually collects on Petőfi Sándor Street, from where it then forces its way into the stream bed. The watercourses formed by rainwater have damaged both the streets and the stream bed. The contractor is constructing a channelled road surface on Széchenyi Street to ensure that rainwater is drained away from the area in a controlled manner, and is also carrying out the reconstruction of the bed and embankments of the Kisapostag watercourse.

A new park and safe pavements are also being built

As part of the project, a section of Petőfi Street will be developed to ensure accessible and safe conditions for pedestrians. A pavement will be built from the local council canteen to the bus stop on Main Road No. 6, and two new pedestrian crossings will facilitate crossing the busy road.

The project will also renew the environment of the community centre. A new public park will be created, which will be a cultural meeting place for local people. The aim of the improvements is to make the village more liveable and to attract more young people to stay.
