Hungary's newest hospital block to be opened in summer

Nearing completion, the Fejér County Szent György University Teaching Hospital is being built under the general contract of the consortium of Fejér-B.Á.L. Zrt. and Épkar Zrt. consortium. As we have been reporting continuously on the construction work, which has been ongoing for two years, one of the country's most significant healthcare investments is taking place in Székesfehérvár. The new 112-bed, 64-ward hospital building will house the internal medicine department and the pulmonology department, but will also treat patients with cancer and infectious diseases.

Final touches

The construction of the three-and-a-half-storey hospital block, with a floor area of around 6,100 square metres, is now in its final phase. The contractors are still working on the facades, with only the last phase remaining: the installation of the canopy and the shading. Meanwhile, inside, the building is also taking its final shape: painting, hot and cold tiling and electrical installations are progressing at a brisk pace.

As we learned from Anita Pető, the Épkar's architect:

"Renovation work has also started on the approximately 1,000 square metre corridor connecting the former hospital building to the new one, where the replacement of windows and doors, the installation of plasterboard and the painting and plastering are already underway."

In addition to completing the interior and exterior works, the final tasks for the contractors include the landscaping of the surrounding area, which will require 1,200 square metres of exterior paving, 1,460 square metres of asphalt paving and 880 square metres of new parking spaces for 40 cars.

Could be ready by the deadline

Although the work was hampered by the autumn-winter weather, thanks to the perseverance of the contractors, the new hospital building can be handed over to the public and professionals on time, in July 2024, as Attila Mészáros, Deputy Mayor of the city, pointed out at the bushwalking ceremony of the block:

"this will give the largest hospital in the region a new building".
