The surroundings of a famous Hungarian merchant's castle in Pellérd have been beautified

Around 240 million forints have been invested in the surroundings of the Pellérd Castle in Baranya County. The park of the Brázay Castle, which is mainly neoclassical but also eclectic, now serves as a community space and playground.

As stated in the announcement by the Baranya County Local Government, as a result of the development project implemented with EU funding of HUF 244 million, the green areas and built infrastructure elements in the building's park have been renovated. According to the public procurement data , the project was contracted to GSH Építő Kft, also based in Baranya County (centred in Villány).

The area was planted with native plants adapted to the growing area and climate change, a playground of about 800 square metres was renewed and a paved walkway was created.

The project included the installation of street lighting in the park, street furniture, a wifi network and a camera system, and the renovation of the lookout tower in the area.

The castle of the King of Salt and Pepper

The castle and its surroundings are also of interest because they are associated with the name of Kálmán Brázay, one of the early important figures of Hungarian industrial and commercial life. The internationally renowned distributor of salt and pepper spirit took his first name from the village in order to receive the title of nobleman for his commercial merits. The businessman, active during the monarchy era, took possession of the 2,750-acre Pelleerd manor in 1887.
