This small town in Friesland is expanding its kindergarten to cope with the increased number of children

The municipality of Csorvás, Békés county, has won half a billion forints in EU funding for the expansion of the kindergarten and the renovation of the day-care kitchen. Both grants were awarded under the Operational Programme for Regional and Urban Development (TOP) Plus.

They will also be able to cope with the increased catering tasks

A new classroom for at least 20 children will be built with HUF 100 million from the expansion of the existing kindergarten building. The new facility will have a floor area of 181.5 square metres, and the grant will also be used to buy equipment. 

The municipality of the town of more than 4,000 inhabitants will spend €400 million to develop and renovate the local day-care kitchen. The kitchen premises will be enlarged and renewed, and new state-of-the-art kitchen equipment will be purchased. As a result, the total capacity of the kitchen will be increased by 100 to 600 meals per day, enabling it to cater for the increased number of children and social meals, the municipality said. 

In the near future, the music school will also be renewed

As a background to the development, MTI says that although the population of Békés county has decreased, the population of Csorvás has increased by 120-130 people since 2020. For this reason, an eight-seat mini-care centre was opened last autumn with a grant of HUF 165 million, they noted.

For both projects, public procurement procedures will be launched in the near future. The nursery is contractually due to be completed by the end of June 2026 and the kitchen by the end of the year, they noted. They added that the city also intends to tender for the energy renovation of the music school in the near future.
