Unilever to build a deodorizer factory in the north-eastern corner of the country, mainly for export

The new major investment of the British-backed Unilever was announced at a press event at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade on 9 October: the international company will set up a deodorant production plant in Nyírbátor.

The HUF 30 billion project will be supported by the state with HUF 3.9 billion, and 100 new jobs will be created in the factory.

Unilever said in its announcement that it will bring a new product category and manufacturing operations of world-renowned beauty brands to Hungary. The new plant will be built at the company's Nyírbátor site and will soon start production of aerosol deodorants under the brands Axe, Rexona and Dove, with the potential to produce 150 million bottles of deodorant per year.

Central, Eastern and Southern Europe will buy deodorant from Nyírbátor

This will make the Unilever unit in Birbatore the 4th largest such plant in the global network. It is planned to export 92 percent of its production, covering the domestic market and supplying the Czech Republic, Romania, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine and Greece.

Construction started this autumn and production is expected to start in the first half of 2026.

Speaking at the event, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó praised British-Hungarian economic cooperation and stressed that although Hungary is the 95th most populous country in the world, it is the 33rd in terms of export performance.

He confirmed that Hungary therefore remains in favour of connectivity and interconnectivity. "We want to maintain the attractiveness of our country on both the Eastern and Western markets, and we would like to continue to see products produced in Hungary being competitive both in the East and in the West," he said.
