More than one and a half times the surface area of the famous spa in Borsod

An investment worth HUF 4.4 billion from two tender sources will be launched at the Zsóry Spa and Beach Baths in Mezőkövesd, announced the Minister of State of the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) responsible for food economy and agricultural training at a press conference on Friday in Mezőkövesd.

Two decades of renovations in a row

András Tállai, who is also a Fidesz MP for the region, said that the investment now underway is the biggest development in Zsóry, which will increase the safety of the spa, improve its sustainability and achieve significant quality improvements. This will make it more competitive than it is now and will allow it to remain one of the country's leading spas, he added.

The Minister of State recalled that the first swimming pool was opened in the town in 1940, so Mezőkövesd has had a spa for 85 years.

Over the past twenty years, the spa has undergone a number of improvements, with a new spa section in 2004, the pools were renovated in 2011, a new adventure pool was opened in 2017 and the health park was renovated in 2020.

Adult sports lake, wave pool and wet playground to be built

New water surfaces are being created as part of the development work that is now underway: while the Zsóry had 4,000 square metres of water surface after renovation in the 1970s, this will now increase to 6,600 square metres. A new access system will be developed and the use of green energy will be promoted by installing solar panels. The development will also include the drilling of a new 1,000-metre deep hot-water well and the renovation of several existing wells," András Tállai said.

The renewed wave pool will form the main axis of the water world, surrounded by curved adventure and cascade pools. The new complex will also include a seated and standing adventure pool, a family adventure pool, a family wading pool, an adult sports pond, a wave pool and a water playground.

Energy efficient pumps, water heating with recycled heat

The energy modernisation will cover the entire facility, including the construction of a new power house and reservoir, a modern pool heating system, and water heating using recycled heat. The experience elements will be powered by energy-saving pumps and the water will be filtered using state-of-the-art equipment. The investment will amount to HUF 3.2 billion.

Part of the €1.1 billion tourism grant will also be used to develop the spa. The obsolete and dilapidated lap and wave pool complex will be completely demolished and replaced by new pools and thematic units.

During the works, the spa will be open

As another part of the tourism project, a cultural route will be created together with the municipalities of Szentistván and Tard. Interactive demonstration spaces will be set up in Mezőkövesd at Zsóry Grove, at the main entrance to Zsóry Baths, at the Tard Dance Barn and at the Szentistván Country House.

The mayor pointed out that during the works the bath will be open and will welcome guests. The improvements will be completed next year.
