40 dormitory places for MCC in Győr

As previously reported reported, the REAG Invest Kft. carried out the complete mechanical, electrical and architectural renovation of the Mathias Corvinus Collegium training centre in Győr. The former hotel is located in the centre of Győr, next to the Basilica and the Bishop's Palace. It was built in 1978 for Rába Magyar Vagon- és Gépgyár; the building, which was handed over with a visual appearance and quality similar to that of the Hilton Hotel in Budapest, is a tribute to the work of renowned interior designers and artists.

On 5 November 2024, MCC signed a contract with the contractor for the conversion and renovation of the Győr MCC centre as a basic project. As a continuation of this, the attic of the building can now be built by REAG Invest, which was commissioned with the previous renovations, for approximately 1 billion forints.

40 new dormitory places created

In the attic, the current 33 places in the dormitory will be extended by 40 additional places, while retaining the roof structure. REAG Invest will undertake a detailed construction project, with the successful bidder:

• occupational safety and health tasks,
• crane operator and crane operator tasks,
• building services engineering tasks.
• building services,
• furniture joinery tasks,
• locksmith tasks,
• painting jobs,
• cold wrapping tasks and
• plasterboarding jobs

and, in addition to mechanical and electrical installation and insulation, the REAG Invest will also install 22 wardrobes. It has 12 months to complete this work.

Focus on material handling

The former hotel is located in the area of protected monumental significance, in the surroundings of the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a cathedral of special importance, and in the area of the National Monument of the Chapel Hill, a protected archaeological site.

Although the planned activities do not require a building permit (as the purpose and use of the building complex will not change), due to the listed building's setting, the construction work on the façade is subject to a heritage notification.

The contractor must also pay close attention to the work of the crane operator and crane control, as there is only 420m² of manipulation area available, and in this prime location, any damage to any of the buildings in the vicinity would result in incalculable damage to the National Monument.
