In one of the procedures for the „Renovation of Széchenyi Square and the Votive Church”, the bid submitted by Épkar Zrt. was accepted as the winning bid. The investment, worth a gross HUF 6.062 billion, involves the comprehensive renovation of the entire city centre, covering an area of approximately 30,000 square metres, including Széchenyi Square, the arcade of the Votive Church, Szabadság Street, Sétáló Street, and the park and playground behind the church.

According to the announcement, the worksite is expected to be handed over in the first weeks of September, following the conclusion of the construction contract. The final deadline under the contract is 650 days from the handover of the worksite. During the works, the development area will be open to the public and the Mohács Busójárás will continue to take place without disruption.

The investment is being carried out with a public subsidy of 100%, so the city does not need to provide any own contribution, they added.

Historic atmosphere meets modern solutions

The Mohácsi Hírek is a previously published post Mayor Gábor Pávkovics also provides a detailed description of the investment.

According to the Mohács 500 residents' forum, the aim of the urban regeneration project is to create a part of the city that combines a coherent atmosphere, modern functionality and historical references.

A new paving, street furniture and lighting will ensure a coherent look, while the distinctive pattern of the basalt cube paving will be preserved. The central feature of the space will be an amphitheatre-style structure suitable for events, and barrier-free entrances will be provided. There will also be a new recessed fountain, a "Blood Creek" to commemorate the heroes, and modern, energy-efficient street lighting, together with a complete replacement of the utility network.

The number of parking spaces in the area will increase from 53 to 91. There will also be a new playground and accessible public toilets, and traffic will be controlled by bollards. The aim of the development is to make the historic city centre a modern, sustainable and dignified place for everyday life and festive events.

The project is part of the Mohács 500 commemorative year.
