The second largest LEGO factory in the world opened in Nyíregyháza

With an investment of HUF 54 billion, the world's second largest LEGO factory has now been built in Nyíregyháza, and this is the only factory in Europe where all production processes are present, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced on Tuesday.

According to the ministry's statement, the minister said at the opening of the LEGO plant that the Danish toy manufacturer had expanded its packaging and warehouse capacities to the tune of HUF 54 billion, making Nyíregyháza the second largest factory in the world. The development was supported by the government with HUF 4.3 billion, helping to create 300 new jobs.

The LEGO factory in Nyíregyháza has been expanded with 30,000 square metres of new buildings. Originally opened in 2014, the 120,000 square metre plant has been gradually expanded over the years and now covers 262,000 square metres.

LEGO is the largest employer in Nyíregyháza

The company, which is the largest employer in the region with 4,300 employees, will be able to produce 30 percent more products in Hungary thanks to the improvements. Last year, the company's turnover in Nyíregyháza was over HUF 100 billion, setting a new record, and next year the number of employees will reach 5,000, also a record.

For years LEGO has been steadily expanding its renewable energy sources, with 24,000 solar panels currently powering the factory, and this number will soon increase to 35,000.
