A new nursing home was inaugurated in the XVI district - with almost 4000 square metres of green space

The Kertvárosi Home for the Elderly was inaugurated in the XVI district of the capital on the World Day of Older Persons, on 1 October. The gap-filling, 3.9 billion forint, municipally funded investment was made possible with the support and cooperation of the state, the implementation of Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium and 106 million forints of funding from the Ministry of Interior for planning

Four thousand square metres of green space

The newly opened, single-storey, 50-seat, 2200 m² flat-roofed building has 187 m² terraces and 158 m² balconies, and the institution also has nearly 4000 m² of landscaped green space.

The nursing home has 29 single rooms, 9 double rooms and 1 quadruple room with wheelchair access, of which the dementia unit for dementia patients can accommodate 11 people. With the creation of new jobs, the residents are looked after by a staff of 27, including 12 nurses, 1 senior nurse and 3 social-mental work social workers. All-round care is provided by a 100-cup warming kitchen and a lift for in-patient transport due to the floor conditions.

Replacement investment with energy-saving solutions

The communication underlined that the project will enable the residents of the XVIth district to express their clear wish to spend their old age in a quiet, peaceful, suburban environment, surrounded by greenery. The investment fills a gap, because for about two decades this was not possible, because although the Municipality of Budapest still operated three residential retirement homes in the XVIth district at the time of the regime change, the last of these was closed almost 20 years ago.

"The mechanical, heat pump and solar panel system developed has resulted in a facility whose long-term running costs will be the least possible burden on the daily life of the maintenance company. The green space has been incorporated only to the extent strictly necessary and the project is in perfect harmony with its surroundings."
