Petőfi Park will undergo a complete renovation with EU funding by spring 2028. The aim of the development is to make the city's largest green space more sustainable and community-friendly.

With EU support, Petőfi Park in Makó will be renovated by spring 2028 at a cost of approximately 265 million forints, according to the local government. Petőfi Park is Makó's largest public park, covering an area of approximately two hectares, and is one of the city's most central and prominent green spaces.

The first step of the project will be to survey the existing tree population and modernise the playground. The playground equipment and surfaces will also be renovated. New street furniture will be installed in the park, and new bicycle racks will also be installed due to the significant bicycle traffic in the area. The park's ageing internal surfaces will be replaced or renovated.

They create contiguous green areas with rain gardens.

Over the next two and a half years, new green spaces will be created in the park. Another important goal is to retain precipitation falling on the area so that the water seeps into the soil locally. Trees will be planted in the park, along with mixed vegetation and bulbous flowers. Irrigation points will be installed in the park to maintain the green areas.

In the deeper parts of larger, contiguous green areas, newly created rain gardens can ensure that accumulated rainwater seeps away, thereby increasing water retention.

New parking spaces will be created at the Kisbagoly restaurant on the edge of the park, which will make it much easier for visitors arriving by car to park legally, according to the announcement.
