One of the objectives is to develop a PVC-based flooring system that will bring about a functional and aesthetic renewal of the Graboplast product range.

Graboplast Zrt. is implementing a long-term factory development programme in Győr worth 9.3 billion forints.

According to a previous announcement, the market-leading company in Central Europe in the field of specialised flooring manufacturing is carrying out a capacity expansion and a research and development programme as part of the investment.

The government is providing 2.85 billion forints in funding for the development. Our newspaper has received a written summary of the background to the investment from the Hungarian company, which has a history stretching back more than 120 years.

According to the company, which generates 85 per cent of its revenue from exports, the aim of this strategically important innovation is to further increase productivity and operational efficiency – whilst keeping the principles of sustainability in mind. „The planned expansion is intended to advance and modernise the manufacturing process: new equipment and processing solutions will be integrated into the existing production system,” they wrote.

They are in talks with Chinese, Italian, German and Hungarian suppliers

The summary revealed that the capacity expansion is currently in the technical preparation phase. „Work is underway to draw up the detailed technical specifications for the planned technological upgrades and to assess the necessary equipment and technological solutions,” they explained. „According to current plans, we intend to complete the investment by 31 December 2029.”

The report also revealed that, with regard to machinery technology, discussions are currently underway with several potential supplier partners, including Chinese, Italian, German and Hungarian companies.

Cleaning becomes easier, and the surface finish improves

The comprehensive development project also includes an R&D programme. The aim of this is to develop an innovative PVC-based flooring system that will bring about a functional and aesthetic renewal of the Graboplast product range.

„The introduction of the new surface treatment solution represents a step forward in several respects in terms of the products” functionality and usability. The technology used contributes to the development of more favourable surface properties, which supports the products’ long-term usability and simplifies everyday maintenance and cleaning processes.”

Another aim is to allow for greater flexibility in the surface finish: „This means that the optical properties and aesthetic characteristics of the coating can be better adapted to different product designs.”

Throughout the ages, renewal has been one of the principal virtues

Another key aspect of the development is the modernisation of the quality assurance systems associated with manufacturing processes. „The introduction of these new solutions enables continuous and more accurate monitoring of the condition of products during manufacture, thereby helping to maintain a consistent standard of quality.”

The summary of Graboplast concluded by emphasising that, as a result of the investment, we will be able to produce more products at lower costs and to an even higher standard.

It was pointed out that the development strategy of this company, which boasts a history stretching back centuries, has been defined from the outset by its ability to constantly reinvent itself, find new directions and respond flexibly to the challenges of the times.
