Hungary's new Danube bridge tested with spectacular operations

The Kalocsa-Paks Danube Bridge, built as part of the general construction of the Duna Aszfalt Zrt. – as announced in a statement by Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium. First the static load, then the dynamic load was applied

As indicated in our previous articles, the structure consists of two river bridges and a river bridge. The three parts have different structural systems but form a single unit.

According to a statement from ÉKM on Saturday, the project element that has just been completed started on Friday, when the left and right floodplain bridges were tested with 8 trucks weighing 40 tonnes each. Saturday was even more spectacular, with the static and dynamic testing of the middle bridge element of the embankment bridge, as part of a day-long project.

For the test load of the largest extradosed bridge structure in Hungary, 440 metres long, 20 40-tonne vehicles were used by the Duna Aszfalt.

These parameters were examined

According to the ÉKM, the vehicles spent long minutes in numerous formations. During this time, the experts measured the deformations caused by the weight and the stresses in the individual structural elements at predetermined points on the bridge structure. Among other things, the bending of the main girder, the sinking of the supports and the natural frequency of the structure were also investigated.

A much busier and shorter measurement event than the previous ones was the dynamic load, during which two trucks crossed the bridge at speeds of 5, 20, 40, 60 km/h.

The technical acceptance procedure for the construction of the Kalocsa-Paks Danube bridge and the 14.3 km road linking it will be completed at the end of May, followed shortly after by the handover ceremony.
