Construction of the final section of the M44 is under way

Seventy-five per cent of the road surface already has at least one layer of asphalt pavement on the M44 expressway section between Kecskemét and Szentkirály, according to magyarepitok.hu. The westernmost section of the M44 is being built as part of the Hódút Építő Kft. general construction project belonging to Duna Group: the recently completed Lakitelek-Szentkirály section all the way to the M5 motorway. The Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium investment will create a 32.2-kilometre four-lane new route with a total of 14 structures.

According to our newspaper, the weather in early 2024 was favourable for the construction work, so earthworks on the section of the M44 in question could already start in February. In February, work started on the binding layer on the asphalt base layer, which was completed last year, and in the second half of March, construction of the Ckt pavement base also began.

Two bridges have already reached the technical handover stage

József Pál, Deputy Project Manager, also reported that the track slab has been completed on all 14 structures on the section. "On the railway structure, the construction of the poured asphalt protecting the insulation has been completed, and the paving and landscaping of the gully under the structure is also finished," he said, reporting on the status of the bridge over the Budapest-Szeged railway line.

In particular, he referred to the two bridges built on the M44 to cross the 441 and the 4614.

The partial technical handover of the two structures started at the end of April, and they will be open to road traffic after their provisional opening to traffic at the latest by the end of June. "At that time, the linking of the main section of track underneath will begin," he said.

The project has reached 60 percent completion

In addition to all this, a simple rest area will also be built on this section, which will have energy-efficient dynamic lighting similar to that of the László Mosonyi rest area on the adjacent section of the M44 motorway, as described in rel="noopener">the Mosonyi László rest area on the adjacent section of the M44 motorway. The rest area will be equipped with 10 solar panels, which will provide the facility's daytime electricity needs.

According to József Pál, the paving of the left rest area has been completed up to the level of the bonding layer, and the construction of the toilet building is also on schedule. In conclusion, he said that 3/4 of the entire section already has at least 1 layer of asphalt pavement and the project is 60% complete. "According to the contractor's contract, the technical handover of the project will be completed in February 2025 and the construction is currently on schedule," the deputy project manager stressed.
