New cycling route opened along the border with Sopron

Cycling infrastructure development has reached an important milestone in the north-western corner of the country: a road project connecting Nagycenk, Kópháza and Harka in the vicinity of Lake Fertő and Sopron has been completed at a gross cost of HUF 300 million. The sections in the first two settlements were implemented under STRABAG Építő Kft., and in Harka, Duna Aszfalt Zrt. worked on the project, according to public procurement data.

The 7-kilometre trail connects nearly 8,000 people and runs partly along the former technical border barrier.

As Secretary of State Zsolt Feldmann pointed out, the development of the rural road network, supported by the Rural Development Programme with nearly HUF 300 million, is not only important for farmers in the region, but has also become part of the cycle path network in the Sopron area.

The newly completed route will connect to the 34-kilometre road section between Lövő and Sopron, and will link to international cycle routes in Austria and the Rába region.

How to cycle around the picturesque countryside

Máriusz Révész, State Secretary for Active Hungary, said at a press conference on the project that 300 kilometres of cycle paths are planned in the wider area of Sopron and Lake Fertő. The signs will be installed by the end of autumn.
