The contractor for the planned cycle path in the Zalaegerszeg agglomeration has been found

In May this year, we wrote about the fact that the local governments of Zalaegerszeg and Teskánd were looking for a contractor to build a new cycle path, and the results have now been announced according to EU public procurement data. The winning bid, worth a net HUF 594 million, was submitted by SPRINT Kft., also based in Zalaegerszeg, so construction is expected to begin soon.

The project, funded by EU grant TOP Plusz, consists of the main Teskánd - Zalaegerszeg route, 3468 metres long, and three connecting tracks:

• the north-western branch at Teskand is 183 metres,
• the Andráshida branch is 326 metres,
• and the mountain branch will be 149 metres long.

The construction of a total of 4.126 kilometres of cycle paths is expected to be completed in well under a year, with a deadline of 270 days from the start of work.

This is where the track will go

The new cycle path in Teskánd is planned to start from 1 May Street. It will be connected to the Zala-Völgye cycle path network via the railway embankment near the north-eastern border of the settlement. The main route will run along the western side of the road 7405 and then switch to the eastern side in the vicinity of the Újhegyi Street junction. The new cycle path will then continue along the south side of the road 762 and cross the national road before the junction with the City End road.

From here, the route continues along Purple Street, crossing Purple Street, and then follows the unused railway track to the junction with the Inner Relief Street. It then continues along the north side of the municipal road to the junction with Mill Street, where it finally connects with the existing westbound cycle path.

New bridge to enrich the area

According to the public procurement information, a 325-metre-long footpath and cycle path will be built as a side branch from the Újhegyi Street crossing to the Andráshida district, allowing for long-term development. Also in the longer term, a pedestrian and cycle path will be built between the Inner Relief Road and Helikon Street, paving the way for access to Ebergény.
