The closest facility to the Zala test track is in northern Germany, but once the oval track is completed, Zalaegerszeg will offer the widest range of testing facilities on the continent.

The asphalting will be completed by the end of October, and the automotive test track in Zalaegerszeg will be put into operation next May. the high-speed oval track of ZalaZONE – announced the managing director of AVL-ZalaZONE Próbapálya Kft. at Monday's press conference.

Only two chains in the world can pave at this angle

Zoltán Hamar reported that the 4,400-metre-long oval track, with two parabolic curves inclined at 47 degrees, is designed for speeds of up to 200 kilometres per hour, but vehicles can also travel at speeds of up to 250 kilometres. In addition to speed, it will also be able to load test brakes, running gear and cooling systems.

Speaking about the works presented on site, the managing director said that there are only two machine chains in the world that are capable of paving at an inclination of 47 degrees, one of which is currently working in Zalaegerszeg.

All European car manufacturers use the Zalaegerszeg test track as a customer

Zoltán Hamar recalled that the 250-hectare ZalaZONE automotive test track opened its first track elements in 2019, after the start of the project in 2017, and has been operating at full capacity since 2022. Three elements of the track system, which consists of 10 different test elements, are specifically designed for testing self-driving cars, but an off-road environment has also been developed in collaboration with the Rheinmetall combat vehicle factory on the adjacent site.

In one place, you will find a city and highway simulation environment, a motorway section - unlike anywhere else in Europe - a vehicle dynamics surface, a braking track, a dry and wet handling track, a track with different inclination gradients, but also a road section for measuring vehicle and tyre noise.

The closest facility to the Zala test track is in northern Germany, but once the oval track is completed, Zalaegerszeg will offer the widest range of testing opportunities for customers on the continent, the CEO noted. In response to a question from MTI, he added that all of Europe's car manufacturers and many suppliers use the Zalaegerszeg test track as a customer for small or large jobs.
