Traffic back on the fully renewed M1-M0 junction

On Wednesday 17 July, the diversion was lifted on the section of the M1 motorway heading towards the capital, in the vicinity of the M1-M0 junction, where extensive renovation work had been taking place. This means that traffic from Győr towards the M0 can once again use two lanes, and the original traffic pattern has been restored – as revealed by MKIF Magyar Koncessziós Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt. from his Facebook post.

During the reconstruction, the culvert was demolished to a depth of 140 cm, and the road was given a new base and a thicker double binding layer. The full width of the drainage system was rebuilt and upgraded, a new guardrail was installed and new roadside marker posts were installed.

This was also expressed in figures:

• the asphalt thickness is now 27 cm instead of 15 cm,
• more than 15,000 square metres of paving were replaced,
• more than 2,000 cubic metres of asphalt and nearly 18,000 cubic metres of soil were moved,
• The entire road structure had to be replaced and rebuilt in 7 layers,
• and 1000 metres of new drainage ditches.

The renovation of the busy junction had to be completed before the M1 expansion started in September

The post also reveals that the M1-M0 junction is one of the busiest sections of the MKIF. It has been resurfaced several times in recent years, but has still fallen into disrepair. The aim was to have this junction in good condition before the expansion of the M1 this year, they write.

They also added that preparatory works for the motorway widening are already underway on this section, so the Biatorbágy slip road will remain closed.
