One of Szeged’s most important central areas is being revitalised
Pavement reconstruction work is set to begin in Szeged city centre. Szeged City Council has signed a contract worth 238.2 million forints net with Stravaco Construct Zrt.- for the renovation of several sections of Széchenyi Square and Károlyi Street – reports ekr.gov.hu.
As a result of the development, the technical condition of one of the busiest transport hubs in the city centre will be improved, and the road surfaces and pavements will be upgraded.
The total value of the contract is 238,183,387 forints net.
Over 5,500 square metres of road surface is being resurfaced
As part of the project, on the south-western side of Széchenyi Square, on the section between Kelemen László Street and Kiss Menyhért Street, as well as on the western side of the square, between Nagy Jenő Street and Kiss Ernő Street, and on Károlyi Street.
The wearing course of the asphalt is being replaced across a total area of 5,580 square metres in the affected areas. Of this
- The entire track surface is being replaced over an area of 2,704 square metres,
- A 485-square-metre section of the two-layer asphalt surface is being replaced,
- A single-layer resurfacing project is being carried out over an area of 2,391 square metres.
During construction, various types of asphalt mix are used to ensure adequate load-bearing capacity and durability.
Pedestrian areas are also being modernised
The project not only involves the road surfaces but also includes significant pavement refurbishment works.
According to the plans
- 2,054 square metres of paving will be renewed,
- Kerbs are being built or replaced along 733 metres of road,
- New, durable road markings are being produced across an area of more than 500 square metres.
