The founder-owner of Weinberg, who was recently made an honorary citizen of Lácacséké, not only supports the Zemplén region, but also his home village.

We gained a deep impression of the Zemplén lifestyle and its significance from the interview with the founder and owner of Weinberg "93 Építő Kft. and its founder and owner, our previous interview. István Derczó is a well-known figure in the region, as he shows many signs of local patriotism. His family business, one of Hungary's leading general contractors and steel structure manufacturers, has strong ties to his immediate homeland. Although the continuous growth of Weinberg over the past three decades has made it a significant player in the construction industry at the national level (which has been recognised with numerous professional awards), the entire company is imbued with a connection to Zemplén. In addition to its headquarters in Sárospatak, it supports a number of small towns, including István Derczó's native village. For many years, the company's founder has played a significant role in the development of Lácacséke in the fields of education, culture and the arts, supporting the community and helping to preserve its values. It is no coincidence that the village in Bodrogköz recently made him an honorary citizen.

His exemplary life was recognised

"István Derczó has contributed to the reputation of the settlement and the community, as well as to the improvement of its development and community life" - said András László Fedor, the mayor of the settlement. He stressed:

"István has a deep love and commitment to Lácacsék and is doing much to help it flourish. He takes pride in the local culture, values and traditions and is actively involved in building the community."

As an example, the mayor mentioned that the owner of Weinberg helped the municipality to obtain funds for the renovation of the parish through a tender, and coordinated the reconstruction of the Catholic church. He has also contributed to the realisation of the local Artists' Village and the sale of artworks and paintings produced there.

"By leading by example, he encourages the younger generation in Lácacséké to build strong relationships with each other."

 

Giving back to a community

"It was a great honour and a special feeling to receive the title of honorary citizen" - shared Derczó István. "Lácacséke has always been close to my heart, because I grew up here, and the people and community here have given me the fundamental values that have accompanied me throughout my life.

 

 

It is important for me to give back some of the support I once received here. I feel that by being able to support local children, some of whom are disadvantaged, I can return some of the love and appreciation of the community."

On 6 November, Weinberg presented hundreds of gift packs to the children of the village, which were handed over by the owner of the company at a family event in the village's Star Point community centre. The packages were designed to contain useful and fun items: each gym bag came with a pencil case, notebook, eraser, canteen, a box of crayons and a sweet treat.

 

 

Acting for society

"I think," said the founder of the company, looking at the recognition from a distance, "that anyone who receives an opportunity from a region must give something in return. We must always be mindful of our environment. My social commitment reflects the same thinking, as I focus all my support on this region.

For many years, Weinberg has also sponsored the youth football team of the Cigandi Sport Association and partly the adult team. Cigándi is the predominant parenting club in the region, including children from the Highlands."

 

 

He stressed that the local mayors are doing a lot for the survival of the region, especially László Fedor of Lácacséke, Bertalan Deák of Révleányvár and Krisztián Oláh of Cigánd.

"In May this year, we invited a German-Norwegian delegation to the region. I worked for more than ten years on the construction of the sports hall of the Sárospatak Reformed Secondary School: finally, together with my friends György Wáberer and József Sándor, we managed to complete it: by 2018, the facility was built with TAO funding by Weinberg, for which the three of us provided the self-financing as contractors. As a local patriot, I have been involved in the preparation of the University of Tokaj-Hegyalja from the very beginning in an advisory and support role, and I am currently a member of the supervisory board.

As a result of five decades of work, the new university was established two years ago, which is a great success for the region."

István Derczó also said that nine years ago, as an important tool of Zemplén identity, he and his friends launched the dűlőtour, where they introduce the basic values and treasures of Tokaj-Hegyalja from a slightly different perspective to the invited public and economic figures. The initiative operates as a closed club, but in addition to community-building, it also has a social significance, as networking can even boost the development of the region.
