New electricity substation in várpalota to serve military, residential and industrial needs

The new substation of E.ON Hungária Csoport was inaugurated in Várpalota, which, in addition to the growing residential electricity demand, will serve the defence industry investments in the region.

The facility will also serve the region's defence industrial investment needs

The construction of the substation is also an important element in the development of the defence industry, emphasised Zsolt Kutnyánszky in his speech. The State Secretary for Defence Force Development and Defence Policy at the Ministry of Defence recalled that the defence industry complex on the outskirts of Várpalota first started manufacturing medium-calibre ammunition, followed by a large-calibre ammunition factory, a mortar and grenade factory, a factory producing the necessary ignition devices, and an explosives factory, which will be built in several phases on 400 hectares. The HUF 4 billion development in várpalota is part of the cross-border EU project Danube InGrid, in which they are investing around HUF 116 billion with their Slovakian partners.

In addition to the projects in várpalota, projects worth HUF 60 billion will be implemented in North Transdanubia, such as the Kisbér substation, which will be inaugurated in 2023, and the Zalaszentgróti substation, which was inaugurated last year, followed by similar projects in Szombathely, Zirc and Veszprémvarsány.
The substation, with a floor area of nearly 20,000 square metres, includes two 132/22 kilovolt transformers with a rated capacity of 25 megavolt-amperes and a 22 kilovolt indoor switchgear. The latter is housed in a switching and control building of more than 300 square metres. The capacity of the facility can be further expanded as required.
