An open competition for architects will be launched, with results to be announced in March 2024.

It will soon be decided who will design the new campus of the Károli Gáspár Reformed University in the capital's IX district on Markusovszky Square, according to a communication release of the Synod of the Reformed Church in Hungary. The buildings will be used for law and psychology courses in Ferencváros.

Any Hungarian architect can apply for the Református Egyetemváros Kft., and applications are also welcome from other European Union member states.

The jury is chaired by Regő Lánszki, Secretary of State for Architecture of the Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium, National Chief Architect, and co-chaired by Balázs Fürjes. In addition to the other experts invited by the Reformed Church, the jury will be composed of Tihamér Szalay, Vice-President of the Hungarian Chamber of Architects, Krisztina Baranyi, Mayor of Ferencváros, and Zoltán Erő, Chief Architect of the capital, nominated by Gergely Karácsony, Mayor of Budapest.

The construction of a unified university city is also an investment in urban development

The construction of the university in the area of Kálvin Square and Ráday Street, which already houses the buildings of the Reformed University, is also an urban development investment. It will strengthen the role of Ferencváros as a university town and make Markusovszky Square and the affected section of Kinizsi Street more orderly and green.

In the summer of 2023, the government decided to support the construction of a new campus for the Károli Gáspár Reformed University, which is maintained by the Reformed Church of Hungary.

The aim of the investment is to create a unified Reformed university town instead of the currently fragmented higher education institution, which is dynamically developing in terms of student numbers.
