The roof structure of the Athletics Stadium among the best in the world
Our National Athletics Centre, whose general contractor is ZÁÉV Zrt. and Magyar Építő Zrt., was responsible for the most spectacular elements, the roof structure, KÉSZ Csoport. The central structure, consisting of 48 diamond-shaped steel elements, and the support system made up of prestressed cables were designed, manufactured and implemented by the group's strategic partner, bim.GROUP, a strategic partner of the group.
The Institution of Structural Engineers Structural Awards, whose 2024 finalists showcased the world's most impressive structural design achievements. The jury also evaluated sustainable structural solutions, innovation, positive social impact and commitment to advancing the profession when making their selection.
Precise plans for accurate execution
As stated in the jury's evaluation: An efficient and elegant cable-mesh stadium roof solution for the sports facility on the Danube. The pre-stressed cable system minimizes structural depth and provides an architectural solution with symbolic uniqueness, while also ensuring the stability of the roof.
The use of BIM-based design processes has enabled the rapid evaluation and iteration of solutions, facilitating effective communication and decision-making, and helping to optimise materials, geometry and construction methods. And the close collaboration between structural engineers, architects and contractors led to a result that not only met aesthetic and structural requirements, but also ensured the overall success of the project and stakeholder satisfaction.
Joint success
