The contractor for the renovation of the Budapest City Hall has been selected, and the capital will submit a bid this year

Today's issue of the Public Procurement Bulletin announced that the winner of the tender for the (named after the building) at 9-11 Városház Street, the capital city's City Hall reconstruction. The winner is Build It Engineering Office Zrt., and as stated in the official document: the municipal government of the capital will place ad hoc orders worth 70 per cent of the total budget (net ~945 million forints + VAT) (net: ~661 million forints) by 31 December 2025 for the tasks specified in the ML (technical description – ed. .

The building complex, which also housed the Mayor's Office and the Municipal Assembly, had an adventurous fate: it was originally built for soldiers who had been crippled in the campaigns against the Turks (between 1716 and 1727), thus it was named Invalidus House, then it housed soldiers during the reign of Joseph II, and finally the city administration moved within its walls at the end of the 19th century.

Offices, corridors, stairwells and bathrooms to be renovated

Work is being carried out on approximately 1,414 square metres of the ground floor of the Gerlóczy Street wing of the historic building, based on the plans of Perfektum Építész Kft..  Work will also be carried out on the three floors of the cross wing, involving the renovation of a total of 3,218 square metres of office and corridor space, as well as the sanitary facilities. The documentation specifically highlights that the cooling and heating system is also planned to be upgraded. In addition, a VRF system (variable refrigerant flow system) will be installed in several stairwells during the renovation.
