The contract has been signed - the EU money for the capital's bike lanes

A new chapter in cycling in the capital is about to begin: the Budapest Transport Centre and the Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium Managing Authority have signed two EU co-financing contracts to prepare the implementation of new cycling arterial routes, according to a BKK press release. The two investments, worth a total of HUF 6 billion, aim to offer a safe, attractive and green alternative to urban transport, they say.

• A Váci-Üllői út 1.5 billion HUF under a grant contract for the bike lane,
• a Great Boulevard and a HUF 4.5 billion grant contract for the bike grid.

The total value of the projects is HUF 6 billion, co-financed under the TOP Plusz programme.

The Ullői út and Váci út are key radial routes connecting the city centre with the outer districts. The improvements will contribute to reducing environmental pressure and urban noise pollution in a consistent manner.

A major overhaul of the Great Boulevard may be on the way

In the case of the Great Boulevard, BKK will create conditions for barrier-free and safe pedestrian and cycling traffic on both sides between Nyugati Railway Station and Boráros Square, create orderly conditions for the stocking of shops, and renew and extend green areas directly related to the interventions.In addition to the creation of a cycle lane, the entire cross-section of the affected section, including the renewal of the tree-lined and pedestrian pavements, can be redesigned without affecting the tram infrastructure.
