Bosnia and Herzegovina's leading cement plant was founded in 1974. The facility is able to simultaneously meet the growing demands of the construction industry, environmental requirements and its responsibility to local communities.

The Lukavac Cement d.o.o., which belongs to the Mészáros Csoport, had its most successful year to date in 2025. Two years after the company became a member of Mészáros Csoport, and just one year after its 50th anniversary, the company achieved historic production and sales peaks.

Last year, the company sold nearly 750,000 tonnes of cement products on the domestic and export markets, which is a milestone in the factory's history.

Lukavac Cement d.o.o. manufactures and sells Portland and composite cements, as well as smaller quantities of mortar concentrates. Its history dates back to 1974, when it was established as Bosnia and Herzegovina's first cement factory.

The background to the record year: human and technological factors

One of the most important pillars of success in 2025 was stable and reliable operation. The factory's operation was not hampered by a single malfunction during the year, with production only stopping for scheduled maintenance and inspections. The many years of process-oriented cooperation between the operating and maintenance specialists played a key role in this.

Reliable operation is supported by state-of-the-art production and maintenance monitoring systems, which are continuously developed by our team of engineers. The developments are carried out in close cooperation with the universities of Sarajevo, Bihac and Tuzla. This professional background not only contributes to increasing production volume, but also ensures compliance with the environmental emission limits required by the EU.

Market performance and quality

The record sales were driven by the domestic market's commitment to domestic products and the outstanding, reliable quality of Lukavac Cement's products. These factors provided a stable foundation for sales and marketing activities, which ultimately brought the company's products to market in volumes exceeding forecast demand.

Energy efficiency and circular economy

In response to future challenges – competitiveness, consumers„ ”green" expectations and energy efficiency requirements – the company focused on two major energy projects in 2025. In December, the main mechanical components of the alternative fuel drying plant successfully arrived at the factory. This unit uses part of the flue gas stream to dry the fuel, further improving the factory's ecological footprint and strengthening the integration of circular economy principles into the manufacturing process. The plant is scheduled to be integrated into the manufacturing process at the end of 2026.

The developments do not end there. The next strategically important investment could be a waste heat recovery small power plant, which converts the heat generated during the manufacturing process into electrical energy. According to the feasibility study, this solution could generate up to 4.2 GWh of electricity per year, which would further reduce the specific energy consumption of cement production and thus the intensity of carbon dioxide emissions. Preparations for the investment and the selection of suppliers are currently underway.

Social responsibility and education

For 2025, Lukavac Cement was not only about manufacturing and technological records, but also about commitment to the local community. The company's contribution to improving the quality of life of Lukavac citizens and educating new generations completes its success. The company actively supported sports, cultural, educational and humanitarian projects, paying special attention to young people and children.

As part of this, in 2025, significant funds were allocated to support the expansion of the Lukavac nursery school, and one of the classrooms at the Lukavac Grad Primary School was furnished with modern furniture. In addition to financial donations, the company's employees regularly participate in tree planting campaigns and the maintenance of the city's green areas, promoting environmental awareness and a healthy lifestyle.

The Lukavac Cement continues to be the driving force in the region, proving that a leading cement factory can develop in complete harmony with society.

In addition to promoting the circular economy, the company is also actively involved in professional training. Throughout 2025, the factory welcomed university and secondary school groups on several occasions, giving them the opportunity to learn about the latest industrial technologies in a real-life operating environment.

The outstanding results achieved in 2025 did not go unnoticed: the Lukavac Cement also won the award for the best regional compliance programme.
