BIM is seeking graduates with an interest in BuildEXT Kft.

Published

The aim is to provide young engineers with professional connections and real industry feedback from decision-makers in the digital construction industry as they start their careers.

BuildEXT Kft. is once again announcing its national BIM diploma competition, which offers prizes and professional exposure opportunities for civil, architectural, mechanical and electrical engineering students.

The Hungarian design company would like to recognise graduating university students who use the BIM in their dissertations not only as a modelling tool, but also as a system-level approach.

You receive real industry feedback while still a student

The award ceremony will be held at the Proptech Hungary 2026 conference on 14 May 2026, where the winners will have the opportunity to present their work in a 5-minute professional presentation to domestic real estate and construction industry decision-makers. The top three winners will receive a total of HUF 300,000 in prize money.

In the middle, the three winners from last year

The explicit goal of BuildEXT and Proptech Hungary is to provide young engineers with professional connections and real industry feedback from decision-makers in the digital construction industry as they start their careers. A further goal is to ensure that the digital design approach becomes a real, measurable professional asset during university years.

Not only visually powerful, but also meaningful in the project life cycle

BuildEXT launched its BIM degree programme last year, and the experiences of the first year have made it clear that there is a great need for a professional platform where students can present their work in a data-driven, analysis- and project life cycle-based BIM approach.

The announcement emphasised that BIM (Building Information Modeling) is no longer a competitive advantage, but a basic requirement in complex design and construction projects.

„The BIM is not a drawing tool, but a decision support system,” emphasised Dániel Joó, manager of BuildEXT Kft. BIM and originator of the project. „Our goal is for students to experience in their thesis work what it is like when a model is not only visually powerful, but also consistent in terms of information, analysable and interpretable in the project life cycle.”

Who can apply and what kind of work can they apply for?

Students who will defend their thesis in 2025 or 2026 in a BSc, MSc or undivided programme, or who are eligible for the 2025 TDK thesis, are eligible to apply. Any work created using BIM-based software is eligible. Entries that go beyond „simple” modelling and use the model for further professional purposes will be given preference, for example:

  • simulations, analyses (energy, 4D/5D, quantity statements),
  • parametric or generative design,
  • point cloud-based, as-built processes,
  • Presentation of implementation or operational (FM/CAFM) use.

The announcement also details the evaluation criteria:

  • novelty and innovation of technical solutions;
  • s BIM model structure and information content;
  • the versatility of BIM applications;
  • the professional quality of the thesis and presentation.

Deadlines

  • Submission deadline: 30 April 2026.
  • Announcement of results: 4 May 2026.
