A standalone 1,150-square-metre service hall is being built, whilst the existing service building is being extended by 492 square metres at the KUHN site in Budapest. The construction work is being carried out by STRABAG, which is ensuring that the site continues to operate throughout the building works.

The expansion and modernisation of KUHN cégcsoport’s Budapest site began with a ceremonial laying of the foundation stone. The development, being carried out by STRABAG Magyarország, is driven by the strengthening of the company’s domestic presence and growing customer demand: the capacity of the existing service and customer reception areas has reached its limits. The investment creates new opportunities for servicing, spare parts sales, machinery sales and machinery hire alike.

Founded in 1973, KUHN is an Austrian-based family business comprising three business divisions, five manufacturing plants and a network of 53 sites. The group, which operates in the construction, freight forwarding, warehousing and logistics sectors, distributes products from PALFINGER, Komatsu and Mitsubishi, amongst others. The group’s portfolio was expanded with the addition of EMCO machine tools, which were acquired in 2011.

Comprehensive development for more efficient operations

As part of the project, a standalone service centre with a floor area of 1,150 square metres is being built, comprising offices and a customer lounge. The new facility will provide staff with a modern working environment and will also improve customer service standards. At the same time, the existing service building will be extended by a further two bays, totalling 492 square metres. A waste storage area and a gas cylinder storage area will also be constructed. During construction, heavy-duty basalt concrete paving will be laid over a significant area. In addition, 28 paving-stone-surfaced parking spaces and a section of pavement outside the site will be created.
A comprehensive network of water, sewerage, electricity and stormwater drainage systems will be installed in connection with the new facilities. The existing stormwater drainage system will also be modernised, and the outdoor lighting will be upgraded.

Rainwater is retained on the plot

One of the project’s key environmental features is the retention of rainwater; in future, the water will be managed through on-site infiltration. This solution contributes to sustainable water management and enables more environmentally friendly operations.

A tight schedule must be maintained at an operational site

One of the greatest technical challenges of the project is the tight schedule. Whilst the works are underway, the site must continue to operate without disruption so that KUHN’s customers receive the usual standard of service throughout the project. The technical handover is expected to begin in the summer of 2027.
