On the 108.1-kilometre section between Novi Sad and Subotica, trains can travel at a speed of 200 kilometres per hour.

The whole Serbian section of the Budapest-Belgrade railway line was opened on Friday, with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on the first Belgrade-Sabadka train.

During the trip, the President of the Republic said that the railway line will be an everlasting symbol of friendship and partnership between Hungary and Serbia. The relationship between the two countries is at a historic peak and he expressed hope that it will remain so in the future.

Aleksandar Vucic stressed that he was proud to make history with the opening of the railway line. The new route will contribute to faster economic growth and attract new investors to Serbia.

The Hungarian section, which is of similar importance, is represented by the Hungarian RM International Zrt. and the Chinese-owned China Tiejiuju Engineering & Construction Kft., and the Chinese China Railway Electrification Engineering Group (Magyarország) Kft., According to János Lázár, Minister of Construction and Transport, next January.

On a section of the Budapest-Belgrade railway line in Serbia, between Novi Sad and Belgrade, services have been in operation since March 2022, with a journey time of 36 minutes.

The railway line was scheduled to be opened at the end of November last year, but on 1 November the canopy of the Novi Sad railway station collapsed, killing 16 people, and the opening was cancelled.
