This is what the new market in Pécs will look like, and it will be handed over by the end of the year

In 2023, the Diána Square market in the prefabricated housing district of Pécs will be completely renewed with a HUF 300 million EU-funded development, according to a statement from the Baranja county seat.

The market and its surroundings are one of the busiest public spaces in Pécs, but the condition of the facility has deteriorated significantly and requires technological renewal, hence the need for the investment, which is fully supported by the Operational Programme for Spatial and Urban Development.

According to the document summarizing the evaluation of the bids published in the Electronic Public Procurement System, the best and winning bid for the works was submitted by the Budapest-based ES GENERÁL Kft., which also named Égéshő Épületgépészeti Kft. and József Pál András Pál as subcontractors.

According to a statement from the city administration

The redevelopment of the market will create new and more attractive stalls, more modern hygiene and safety standards and more convenient parking.

Among other things, the works will

• a modern, steel-framed, covered stall with space for sixty tables
• and fifteen closed shops.
• Customer and staff toilets will be installed,
• solar panels will be installed on the roof of the building,
• and the fountain next to the market will be renewed.

In Pécs, there are two busy markets, Diána tér and Hajnóczy utca, next to the new market hall built last year with more than three billion forints. The latter, located in Uranio, was modernised in 2019.
