Small villages in Kalotaszeg could get long-awaited sewage network

The SZABADICS Romania S.R.L.  project, which will cost more than HUF 620 million (approximately Lej 8 million), will build a wastewater network in the villages of Jebucu (Zsobok) and Sfaraş (Farnas) in the municipality of Almaşu (Váralmás) in Silhágy county.

The project, financed by the "Anghel Saligny" National Investment Programme, will include the construction of 12 530 metres of sewerage network, which will be connected to the previously constructed interceptor system, Cristian Felföldi, director of the Eastern Hungary region of SZABADICS Építőipari Zrt. and of the company's subsidiary SZABADICS Romania S.R.L., told us. The Nagykanizsa-based company has been operating its branch and Romanian subsidiary for three years. To date, it has one successfully completed project and five projects under construction.

The Hungarian-owned general contractor was granted a permit to start work in September 2023, and has already gained its first experience in Romania with the CL20 project (extension of the water supply system in the Hidalma - Zutor and Romlott - Kasapatak areas), which was completed in May 2023. Construction started last year and is scheduled for completion in 2024, ahead of schedule.

Only the winter frosts could stop the work

The works started with the construction of a pressure pipeline between the municipalities, of which 3.5 km were completed by 15 December 2023. Work was temporarily suspended due to winter weather, but will resume as soon as weather permits, with the construction of the pressure line and the gravity network.

"In some areas, the construction will be carried out with controlled drilling, using a non-obtrusive technology, in order to minimize the disturbance of the population," added Cristian Felföldi.

Smooth cooperation with the client and the control bodies greatly helps to keep the work moving at a fast pace, as smooth administrative processes are also necessary.

Kalotaszeg and its surroundings, located on the edge of the Mezőség, are also significant for the fact that they are home to the most historic Reformed churches in the region. The joint objective of the investor and the developer is to create better living conditions for the inhabitants of Zsobok (300 inhabitants) and Farnas (100 inhabitants). Further progress on the project, which is typically undertaken with deadlines of 14-20 months, will be reported in the future.
