By 2025, the Bosnyak Street temporary market area could be completely transformed thanks to the Bayer Property utility and road improvements.

We recently reported that a central part of District XIV, the area around Bosnyák Square, will be transformed with more green spaces and a new transport system, with the Bayer Property Zenit by Bayer development, and work has now begun on Bosnyák Street. We asked István Mátyás, chief engineer for roads, utilities and infrastructure at the contractor Bayer Construct Zrt., about the details of the road and utility construction and the expected results.

Significant improvements in the quality of the drinking water network, operational safety

"We will rebuild the entire water and sewerage network in Bosnyák Street, creating a separate sewerage system" - István Mátyás told us.

The renewal of the water supply system will also affect Bosnyak Street and Bosnyak Intersection, where the development will result in the replacement of the existing water pipes with modern, rubber pipes and the connection to the water mains in Rákospatak Street, which will create a circular network that will significantly improve operational safety. The construction of the water main will also include the installation of new fire hydrants in the street. The stormwater drainage system in the public spaces will also be modified, as the road will be equipped with a separate stormwater drainage system. In addition, the street lighting and communication network for the entire road section will be renewed.

"The development will significantly improve the pressure and water quality of the entire street water network, which will also improve the quality of life for the residents"," the chief engineer said.

On 18 March 2024, work began on the sewer and water mains in the two streets, where a total of

  • ~300 metres of drinking water and
  • ~400 metres of the sewage network utility systems

During last year, the first phase of the water supply system was already rebuilt in the same project on Lőcsei Street, Bosnyák Street, up to the line of Fűrész Street, for a length of 470 m.

With a valid road construction permit, road construction is expected to start at the end of April, with road construction proceeding in a phased, street-by-street manner. Spectacular work should start by early summer at the latest and the entire reconstruction could be completed within a year, by spring 2025.

The market will remain and parking spaces will be created

The Municipality of Zugló has explicitly requested the developer to keep the current temporary market, so the central square will be paved with paving stones, surrounded on both sides by a roadway and tree-lined streets. In front of the Zugló Town Centre development area and in front of the houses on Bosnyak Street, a footpath and the existing green lane separating the road surface will be renewed to create a double-sided tree line. A two-way traffic road will be created at the boundary of the development and a one-way concept lane will be created in front of the row of houses.

This will not only frame the paved area reserved for the market, but will also contribute to the logistical operation of the market by reorganising traffic and lining the space with parking spaces.
