What is being built?
The final section of the cycle route between the city of wine and the popular pilgrimage site is completed
The network of cycling routes linking the picturesque landscapes, world-famous wineries, natural, sacral and historical attractions of Baranya County will be further expanded. The continuation of the Máriagyűd route along the 5701 and 5711 roads will be built with HUF 350 million of EU funding. The two-and-a-half-kilometre stretch will include a rest stop where cyclists will be able to carry out minor servicing if necessary.
The contractor has been selected
The EU public procurement notice has already published that the cycle path may be built alongside road 5701, between the Gyűdi út junction and the junction with road 5711, a section with two roundabouts. The 2,360-metre-long, 2.30-metre-wide asphalt-paved bicycle lane with 0.5-metre-wide stabilised shoulders on both sides and earth embankments on the left-hand side will be constructed by Közműépker Mélyépítő és Kereskedelmi Kft..
The development of the roads around Siklós could give a new boost to tourism in the region. The Siklós-Villány route is popular with hikers. The cycle route starts from the border of Siklós, at the roundabout of the bypass, and goes via Nagytótfalu and Kisharsány to Nagyharsány. From the municipal cemetery, the cycle path continues on solid pavement all the way to Villány.
The big plan for the Pécs-Balaton bike path
The completion of the 55 km section between the West Mecsek and Ormanság was announced earlier this year. One of the endpoints of the development is Kákics, from where the Eurovelo13 Iron Curtain Cycle Route and the Ancient Drau route will be accessible via Sellye. The northern terminus of the section is Magyarszék, which will open up the possibility of continuing on to Komló-Sikonda.
The 55 km route takes in twenty locations, including Orfű. The aim of the improvements is to link the individual sections into a single network.
Future projects include the planning of the Siófok-Pécs route and the realisation of a cycle route linking Pécs with Harkán and Siklós.
