New school gym built in a former riverbed
The new gymnasium of the Reformed primary school in Gyula has been completed with two billion forints of funding.
Reformed pastor János Baráth told the telegraph office that the money was used to modernize the energy system of the eight-grade primary school. During the works, specialists installed solar panels, a geothermal heat pump and energy-saving lighting.
They can teach physical education to four classes at a time
The institution's new gymnasium, with an 830-square-metre competition area and four changing rooms, was built in one year by FUTIZO Kft.. The facility also includes outdoor sports fields. The gymnasium provides space for four classes to hold their daily physical education classes at the same time.
Water once ruled the site
The gymnasium was built in the former basin of the Old White River. The facility has a floor area of 37.58 x 23.80 metres, is ground floor with a reinforced concrete pillar frame, steel truss roof structure with a span of 23 metres and a sandwich panel skin. The building complex has a useful floor area of 4,577 m2 and its foundations were laid using almost 250 piles. The project also included soil replacement to a depth of about 50 cm.
Constantly improving buildings
In the school of the Reformed parish of Gyula, the bell was rung for the first time three decades ago in 1994. Nowadays, in the settlement in Békés County, young people in all grades study in two classes.
Last year the new kindergarten building with three classes was opened. In twelve years, a total of 11 properties have been purchased to improve the educational facilities. The congregation has made several investments on its own, including the purchase of the property where the gymnasium is located, said János Baráth.
