What is being built?
Biotechnology plant built in a disadvantaged municipality
A unique biotechnology plant is being built in Tarnabod, Heves County, Hungary. The project, which is part of an investment of more than 600 million forints, aims to produce an antioxidant raw material for Házikó Farm Kft., known for its Funky Forest soft drinks, which will serve as the basis for the development of a new beverage, according to a company statement.
Hungarian research and development results in new buildings
The Hungarian-owned Házikó Farm Kft., manufacturer of the multi-award winning Funky Forest range, has successfully applied for the Food Industry Supplier Improvement Programme (ÉLIP BP) 2023 for new developments. The aim of the project, which has been recognised by the Ministry of Agriculture with an Excellence Award, is to develop and market a functional drink as a healthy alternative, based on astaxanthin, a very powerful antioxidant extracted from algae.
The investment will be carried out both at Házikó Farm Kft.'s site in Szécsény and - with the assistance of the selected technology supplier Glia Kft. - in Tarnabod, Heves County.
Glia Kft. has been active in the field of biotechnology R&D for more than two decades and has implemented a number of successful projects in the agricultural and industrial sectors. As the technology supplier for the project, the company is responsible for the manufacture, delivery and commissioning of the photobioreactors. Their experimental biotechnology plant in Tarnabod will provide the opportunity to develop new technology thanks to the existing and under construction industrial infrastructure and new sustainable technologies.
A natural part of both companies' strategies is to work with the environment
The announcement highlights that the two companies share similar values and are both committed to promoting sustainability, innovation and social responsibility. Házikó Farm Kft. is at the forefront of sustainable food production through the use of local ingredients and environmentally responsible production methods. Similarly, Glia Kft. is committed to sustainable biotechnology innovation. The collaboration between the two companies not only represents a technological advance, but also contributes to the development of disadvantaged communities.
