The largest domestic glass waste recycler in South-Eastern Hungary strengthened with factory expansion

Re-Glass Kft., a glass waste recycling company in Orosháza, has completed an upgrade worth more than a billion forints, the company's managing director said on Monday. Ferenc Aszódi said that with the help of the West Balkan Green Center Nonprofit Kft., they received 300 million forints in domestic funding for the investment, during which they expanded their factory in Orosháza, Békés county, by 240 square meters. They purchased a new glass processing line, as well as drying and label decontamination equipment and state-of-the-art optical scanners.

Sorting the glass with smart technology

The de-labelling device can remove labels from the glass by rubbing, ensuring that optical scanners work more efficiently. A 3-4 millimetre sieve is used in front of the scanners to separate the fine fraction, which is the size limit for the new scanners, compared to the current 6-8 millimetres. The first two scanners will separate lead, tempered and ceramic glass alongside stone and ceramic, while the third scanner will colour-sort the already clean broken glass," the Managing Director explained.

As a result of the tender, the current processing yield of 68-70 percent of incoming raw material has been increased to 80-85 percent

The new glass processing line is almost entirely automated, but the number of employees has increased by three, bringing the total to 65.

The deposit scheme means more raw materials

In addition to the new processing line, the existing line will continue to be used, allowing a significant increase in capacity. Ferenc Aszódi said that they are already noticing an increase in the inflow of recycled glass raw material with the introduction of the deposit scheme. He hopes that next year they will be working four shifts continuously.

Established in 2000, Fer-Marik Kft. has been called Re-Glass since 2019 and is dedicated to the collection, treatment and recovery of all types of glass waste (waste glass from bottles, flat glass, car windscreens, solar panels).

The company is the only in the country to process car windscreens, laminated glass waste and has a solar panel processing licence. Over the past six years, the company has become the country's largest recycler of glass waste.

In addition to the central site in Orosháza, they operate a collection point in Budapest and a flat glass processing plant in Mezőörs. In Győr, a research and development project is being tested in a rented hall, the aim of which is to separate the components of laminated car windscreen glass, the glass and the so-called PVB adhesive, which has been transported to landfills, and to recover the former economically. Almost all of the raw material for the Orosháza bay and flat glass factory is supplied by Re-Glass Kft..
