SWIETELSKY Magyarország is already building Sopron's new kindergarten

Four nursery schools will be set up in Hillebrand Street to provide the best possible conditions for children in Sopron.

SWIETELSKY Magyarország Kft may build another educational institution in Sopron. In July 2023, the company handed over a nursery to the city, and now they are building a kindergarten right next to it on behalf of the Evangelical Church in Hungary. The foundation stone of the facility was laid in a ceremony on Hillebrand Jenő Street, where construction began with the handover of the work site on 16 October 2024.

The Lutheran kindergarten will be built next to the Mosolyvár Nursery School

The parish will also keep its current kindergarten, while the new one will be run as a part of the Hunyadi János Evangelical Kindergarten and Primary School.

On an area of 5082 square metres, a 1243 square metre facility with terraces will be built. The plot is provided with drinking water, sewerage, electricity, natural gas and storm water drainage in accordance with the existing systems. The currently undeveloped site is located next to the exit of the main road 84 and the M85 motorway, in the street Hillebrand. In the past, this was also the venue of the Sopron Parade.

Children will be able to play in the bouncy castle and get immersed in the library

The planned nursery is a 4-occupant facility, with the necessary ancillary facilities, a canteen kitchen and staff service areas.

The heart of the building is a central zibongo zone in the shape of a cross. Its size and design, as well as the mobile walls of the gymnasium, will allow the nursery to hold events in the compressed spaces, with the participation of several groups of children and parents.

On the back side facing the courtyard, the group rooms and their associated child-serving units will be created. Each of the group rooms will have a partially covered play area with a direct connection to the playground. In accordance with the operator's needs, a garden toilet will be provided for children's use on the courtyard terraces.

The street wings will house a group of rooms for operations and staff. This will include several pantries, the library and parents' reception, as well as an individual development/logotherapy room, a medical room and an adult male/female restroom.

A colourful LEGO world for children

The modern-looking building was designed to match the style of the existing nursery, following guidelines from the chief architect.

The main entrance is designed with a strong architectural element that is inviting for children. Inside the building, the spaces used by the little ones will be given a youthful, playful feel with the use of LEGO elements, which will give a fresh, playful look with a strong use of colour.

Easily accessible building, secure solutions

The design of the building aims to achieve a harmonious structure, easy access, well-positioned children's zones and a logical layout of courtyard terraces and play areas.

Special attention will be paid to parking, as most children are expected to be transported by car by their parents. Parking will be provided within the plot, with 1 accessible space as required, with a barrier built into the street boundary, which motorists will be able to access via a private road, which will be closed to public traffic.

The new building of the Hunyadi János Evangelical Kindergarten, Primary School and Elementary Art School in Sopron is part of the long-term cooperation between the Evangelical Church of Hungary and the Government of Hungary, signed in 2020, as part of the EGYH-EKF-20-P-0042 grant. The investment of HUF 1.375 billion is fully financed by the Government of Hungary.

Building a kindergarten is proof of faith in the future

Bishop János Szzemerei, President of the Synod, celebrated the solemn laying of the foundation stone and asked the Lord God to bless the institution. In a series of speeches that followed, the importance of the building for the future was strongly emphasised.

Miklós Soltész, Minister of State for Religious and Ethnic Relations of the Prime Minister's Office, welcomed the participants and said, "I trust that we can preserve the values of the created world through Christianity and pass them on to future generations." He said that here, in the most faithful city, the construction of the third church kindergarten could start in almost seven years. The next phase of the evangelical kindergarten development programme has been replaced in the budget that will be presented to Parliament at the end of December, so there will be money to continue with the next phase of construction.

Dr. Attila Barcza, Member of Parliament of Sopron and its region, greeted all the participants and emphasized that Sopron is a school town, where the child comes first. "We can be proud of the fact," he said, "that we are slowly reaching the end of the renovation and expansion of all kindergartens and nurseries in Sopron, but we are also making good progress with the renovation of schools and vocational training institutions. It is an open intention to bring educational institutions more and more into church care. Sopron is also very well placed in this respect, as we can be very proud of our Lutheran and Catholic schools."

Mayor Ciprián Farkas emphasized in his speech that "we in Sopron are building a city where it is good to live, raise a good family and raise a good child. We have renovated many kindergartens and schools so that children in Sopron can grow up in the best possible conditions." He also pointed out that "just next door to the new kindergarten, an 84-place nursery has been built and is now operating at full capacity. This is something of which all local residents can be proud. The city is pleased to have given this land free of charge for the nursery and I hope that we will soon be able to stand here for the bushwalking ceremony."

Tamás Mészáros, the supervisor of the Western (Transdanubian) Evangelical Church District, added: "I remember Swietelsky Magyarország as a company from Sopron, whose slogan was: we are building the future. Where could this be more appropriate than when building a kindergarten?" Recalling another Sopron-related experience, he said, "I see a secure future for the children who go here: just a few weeks ago, we barely fit into a family service in the courthouse, the atmosphere and message of which was a clear proof for me of the right of the kindergarten and the commitment of the Sopron congregation."
