The construction of three new reservoirs with a capacity of 4,500 cubic metres in the areas of Ács and Bábolna is aimed at reducing the number of water-scarce municipalities and ensuring security of supply.

Ács and its surrounding area received a commission for the complex development of the drinking water utility network and the implementation of design and construction tasks from Colas Alterra Zrt. and Betonútépitő Zrt. on behalf of Északdunántúli Vízmű Zrt. , according to the EU public procurement announcement.

The water supply system in the region would be fed in both directions

According to the published announcement, the investment aims to solve the supply problems in Babolna during the peak summer consumption period. The municipality is supplied from the regional system in Tatabánya, which no longer has sufficient capacity to meet its water needs. However, in the case of the Koppánymonostor aquifer, there is sufficient spare capacity to supply not only Bábolna but also the industrial area of Acs. As is known, a cathode plant in Ács is scheduled to start production this year.

Security of supply could improve in twenty-eight municipalities in the region

If Bábolna gets its drinking water from the Koppánymonostor water base, the daily water volume of about 1000 cubic metres will be released for the settlements between Bábolna and Tatabánya (Környe, Vértessomló, Várgesztes, Kecskéd, Kömlőd, Oroszlány, Bokod, Dad, Szákszend, Császár, Vérteskethely, Ete, Csép, Tárkány, Nagyigmánd, Kis-igmánd, Bábolna, Kisbér, Ászár, Bakonyszombathely, Bársonyos, Kerékteleki, Bakonybánk, Réde, Ácsteszér, Aka, Súr, Csatka), increasing the security of supply.

Storage capacity at Koppánymonostor would be increased by two thousand cubic metres

The water pipelines to be built during the project would provide a two-way supply to all settlements - from the Tatabánya and Koppánymonostor systems - which can also meet the increasing consumption in summer.
The experts from the companies commissioned to carry out the works will be responsible for the design and construction of two 1000 cubic metre reservoirs and a technology to treat 750 cubic metres of water per hour in Koppánymonostor. A further task is the design and construction of a water pipeline from the water tower in Acs to the industrial area, covering a length of around 7.3 km.

A new reservoir may also be built in Bábolna

In Bábolna, the reservoir capacity of the lake would also be expanded, with design and construction tasks also awaiting the experts of the companies commissioned for the project. According to the description, the reservoir would be increased by the equivalent of 1 day's consumption, i.e. 2,500 cubic metres. A further 2.8 km of water pipeline will also have to be built from the industrial site in Acs to the planned reservoir in Bábolna.
