Another step in the long-awaited road development of Southern Hungary

The development of the M60 motorway can continue. As our portal has already reported, the approximately 37-kilometre section of the M60 motorway between Pécs and Szigetvár was designed by the UNITEF ’83 Kft. and UTIBER Kft. consortium. An announcement was recently published in the EU public procurement bulletin announcement was published in the EU public procurement bulletin, in which Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium is awaiting design bids for the preparation of the implementation plans for the 2×2 lane motorway. The procedure is conditional, as the ministry has submitted a request for funding.

Nearly 40 kilometres of new motorway to be built

According to the call for tenders, the successful tenderer will be responsible for:
the M60 between Pécs (31+160 km) and Szigetvár west (68+407 km) on the
- widening of the existing 2×1 lane track into a 2×2 lane road on a 1 km section between sections 31+160 and 31+996 km; and
the preparation of design documentation for a new 2×2 lane motorway for 36 km between sections 31+996 and 68+050 km.

In addition to the road sections concerned, the winner of the public procurement procedure will prepare:

• 5 separate level nodes,
• 12 level nodes,
• 2 rest areas - one and two sides -
• 1 engineering site with a police building.

34 new structures could be built on the road section concerned

The announcement also mentions that the project includes 34 new structures, the most significant of which is the 335-metre-long bridge spanning the Pécs water and Zóki ditches at km 40 of the motorway.
At the Keszü wetland and wildlife crossing, a 196-metre bridge is planned. A nearly 100-metre long superstructure would also be built at the intersection of Highway 6 and the planned Highway 67 and over the Inselvár cycle path at km 63.
In addition, it is planned to use the national road 6607 to create a 2.6 km long 2×1 lane link back to the main road 6 at Szigetvár.
The successful tenderer will be responsible for the preparation of the full design and model BIM of the 4.6 km long 2×1 lane link road 5832 at Szentlőrinc, based on the construction permits and the permit plans.

New bypass planned on new route

The design should also provide for the possibility to build the motorway in 2 separate phases. One of these sections would be between Pécs and Bicsérd (including the Bicsérd junction), while the other would be between Bicsérd and Szigetvár. At Bicsérd, the eastern bypass would be realised as a 2×1 lane national road with a 4.5 km long new track and a technical ramp over the railway. In connection with the design of this project, the contractor's tasks will include the preparation of a Pre-Decision Study, the Preliminary Study Document and the preparation of the full permit and construction plans and model BIM.
János Lázár, the Minister of Construction and Transport, said at a forum in Pécs that the development of the above-mentioned road section could start in the 2026-2030 government term. He said.
