The 65 million euro (25.8 billion forints at current mid-market exchange rates) stadium construction in Transylvania will be preceded by detailed design and demolition works in parallel over the next 6 months. Work on the new structure itself could start in late 2025 or early 2026.

The facility, which will be built on the site of the old arena, will be built to FIFA and UEFA standards and will include night lighting, a giant projector and an electronic scoreboard. The stadium will have a total area of more than 37,000 square metres, with parking under the complex.

The 16,000-seat stadium (of which there were only 3,000 seats) was opened in 1960 and, although it was renovated in 2009, it no longer meets basic modern standards, they say. The demolition costs will be covered by the local council. The stadium was previously named after Michael Klein, a famous player for the city team, but last September, following a legal dispute, the local council changed the official name to Vajdahunyadi Corvinul 1921.

The contract for the construction of the new arena was also signed by Dan Bobouțanu, the mayor of the city of around 50,000 inhabitants, who was speaking to the community:

This is the biggest infrastructure project in Vajdahunyad in the last 40 years.
